About the book:
This anthology, a project of the PEN Beacon Centre Programme, collects stories that deal with various facets of peace, or the lack thereof. In selecting the stories, editor Jaime An Lim considered two things: that an ideal mix of the aspiring and the established, the old guards and the new bright hope is approximated; and that the tri-people composition of Mindanao is reflected in the book. Thus the Christians, Muslims and the Lumads are represented in the anthology.
For an anthology title, Peace Mindanao, seems unbelievably and naively audacious, as if peace has finally arrived in Mindanao, constituted after all the interminable bloodshed, when in fact it is still in the process of being negotiated, more elusive than ever. If not quite reality yet, then it is at least expressive of the nation’s hope, not just of Mindanaoans’. One day, it will come to pass.
