About the book:
Ed Ramsey joined the World War II Filipino resistance and rose to command more than 40,000 guerillas. Rejecting the opportunity to escape, Ramsey withstood unimaginable fear, pain and loss for three long years.
We now knew we were surrounded, and finding a way of reaching our lines was a matter of life and death. The men had not eaten for three days, and the horses had had only a few leaves they could snatch as they shuffled along the jungle trails. We began moving across country, dismounting and leading the horses up the slopes of Mount Natib. We fought for passage toward the east, descending into ravines and struggling up the far sides, turned back time and again by gorges so steep it was impossible for men and animals to pass”-Ed Ramsey
