About the author:
Abraham F. Sarmiento served as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines from 1987-1991. He was director of the Philippine Organization of Human Rights, secretary general of the United Nationalist Democratic Organization (UNIDO) , secretary-general and chief legal counsel of the Liberal party, chief legal counsel of LABAN (Lakas ng Bayan) Coalition, and president of the National Alliance for Justice, Freedom and Democracy (NAJFD). He received numerous awards by governmental, civic, and academic groups in recognition of his staunch defense of people’s rights as well as his service to his country.
