About the book:
Life in the Bakun and Amburayan river valleys is a gem, an uncut diamond of a gem. This land, this people who live on the river world between the sunrise mountains and the sunset sea as their folk poets suggest, have the hardness of a stone and the limpid quality of their rivers.
The best folk poet and raconteur of the place, Lakay Canuto Bayang will sing for you his rich repertoire of long narrative poems; of the naughty Donya Annagud and how she seduced an Igorot with the help of Putot, her tailless pet pig; of the lovely Donya Senas who was beheaded by the naranggas nga Igorot and how she was brought back to life by a medic who could not cure himself of a deforming disease, of Indayuan, the lovely daughter of a founding father of the town of Sugpon, and of the handsome hunter with whom an enchanted frog falls in love and gets pregnant by eating his leftovers and, after giving birth to human child, goes to the river to perform the after-birth ritual washing, and there becomes the truly lovely woman that she was.
